On the first flight to Dubai. Hadn't planned to start writing this blog so early but the Emirates flight us wonderful, like flying used to be!
Supposed to be wearing compression socks on the flights, because of the effects of the steroids, so put them on before we left home; they were hard to get on and quite painful once on, but I thought I'd get used to them.
Uneventful trip to the airport, very chatty taxi driver, got checked in wandered about, went to the toilet to adjust the socks twice, no real improvement. Spoke to Boey, replied to Indu, texted Naini. Had a glass of prosecco, checked our K's perfume and boarded and took off on time.
Plane is huge with masses of leg room even in economy. Decided the socks were too painful and managed to wrestle them off while sitting in my seat and repack them with my normal socks which I had cleverly brought with me.
Our A380 waiting at Heathrow
Had a delicious restaurant type meal, several courses all very tasty with real cutlery, like going back in time. Toilets are also spacious with nice toiletries etc. Definitely prefer Emirates to anyone else we have flown recently.
I am watching Truth, D is watching Steve Jobs; I might watch Room on the next flight. I do want to see Brooklyn but it isn't on (finished the book before we left K and really enjoyed it, do you want to try it again?).
It's now 4:41 pm UK time, 8:41 Dubai time, so will finish the film and try and have a sleep.
Saturday - 4am Dubai, I think 8am Singapore time (midnight UK time).
We arrived early at Dubai but had to circle for an hour waiting for a slot to land. Apparently midnight is really busy at Dubai airport. Went through security and in to the departure lounge. It was really busy, all the shops were open and it didn't seem like 1am. Mooched about, what's app'd K&T&S. K&T both replied which was surprising as it was around 10 pm.
Boarded the flight on time but then had to wait for an hour again for a take-off slot. Watched Room while we were waiting. Given breakfast -croissant, jam, butter, fruit salad, muffin, juice, tea...then tried to sleep.
Now about to be served lunch, (grilled chicken or sweet and sour fish, no contest) not really hungry but I am sure I will give it a go. D is hungry, so he can have some of mine.
Feeling the worse for wear now -it's been a long journey and we still have a few hours to go. We should be met and taken to our hotel and then we are free for the rest of the day.
I finally have a bucket list item: to fly first class with Emirates to somewhere....
Lunch over, an hour or so to go to Singapore. Will drink my tea and then meditate. Surprisingly nice cups of tea, with real milk poured by the cabin crew not long-life little pots.
Had to wait in a holding queue again to land but passport control and baggage collection was quite quick. Then went to find our Distant Journeys tour guide - we are a group of 40, and inevitably 2 were very slow / got lost! Made it to the hotel by 6:30 ish. Now checked in having a cup of tea and about to have a shower and go for a walk to find some supper. Even though it is only 11am in England, we probably out to get used to our new times, although it will change again when we fly to Melbourne on Monday evening.
