Thursday 3rd March 2016 - Uluru – Cairns

March 03, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

Up at 6 for a walk to a hillock near the hotel to see the sunrise. Set off together but I turned back as it was quite a long uphill walk and I was going to miss the sunrise anyway. When D got back, we went for a very nice breakfast -shame we aren't staying here longer.

Suitcases outside the door at 9 and off for a mornings sightseeing. First stop was " The Olgas", an impressive series of rounded sandstone domes. A challenging 3 km walk uphill in the heat. So I, along with 10 or so others, opted out and sat under a shelter and spent a very nice hour discussing among other things fgm, burkas, books ....

Finally, to the airport for our flight to Cairns where we will be staying for 4 nights. Time moves on another half an hour, so now we will be 10 hours ahead of the UK.

Our hotel is on the Esplanade and after check-in, went out for a pizza, a wander around and popped into the night market.

Out again at 8 tomorrow for an all day trip to the Great Barrier Reef.

(Don't forget to look up Baldwin Spencer)
